Building a Future Where Homelessness is Rare and Brief: Fremont County’s Progress with Built for Zero
Fremont County is committed to making homelessness rare and brief for all our residents. Since joining the Built for Zero (BFZ) movement in October 2019, we have been implementing a data-driven approach to transform our homeless response system.
The Built for Zero Methodology:
BFZ provides a proven framework, adopted by over 100 communities, focused on using real-time data to measurably end homelessness for entire populations. By accurately identifying and understanding the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness, we can connect them more effectively to housing assistance and other vital services.
A Milestone Achieved: Functional Zero for Veterans
Our dedication to this data-informed strategy has yielded significant results. In March 2021, Fremont County proudly achieved functional zero for Veteran homelessness, becoming one of only a handful of communities nationwide to reach this critical milestone.
Understanding Functional Zero:
Functional zero signifies that our community has created a system where homelessness for Veterans is rare and brief. While it requires ongoing effort to maintain, it demonstrates that we have the capacity to quickly house any Veteran who experiences homelessness.
Looking Ahead:
Our success in reaching functional zero for Veterans provides a powerful model for addressing homelessness across all populations in Fremont County. We are committed to sustaining this progress and continuing to utilize the Built for Zero framework to build a community where everyone has a safe and stable place to call home.
