COVID-19 RESPONSE

For the past 12 months, Loaves and Fishes Ministries has been loving well those who found themselves in need due to the pandemic and those already connected to our services. Thousands of pounds of food has been distributed, over $80,0000 of rent was paid to local landlords, frequent check-ins were conducted by staff members on families and individuals in our housing programs and our emergency shelter remained open 24 hours a day.

Fremont County is reporting a decline in COVID-19 case rates and has moved to Level Blue: Caution. As our community moves towards our new normal, Loaves and Fishes Ministries will be making the following changes to our services.

Starting March 1, 2021 our emergency shelter will return to an evening shelter only. Our shelter will open Monday – Friday at 4pm and our guests will be asked to leave at 8am. On Saturdays and Sundays our shelter will remain open during the day. Individuals who are currently experiencing homelessness are encouraged to contact us at 719.275.0593 if they are in need of shelter.

Grab and Go Meals are available to all who are experiencing homelessness and can be picked up daily at 6:15am and 6:15pm.

Showers are available for those who are sleeping outside on Mondays and Thursdays from 9am – 2pm. Showers are accessed through our food pantry door. Towels and personal hygiene items are available.

Our reception area is open Monday – Friday from 8am – 4pm. Face masks are required. Families who need assistance with overdue utility bills (electric, gas, propane), rent, and/or need to register for a food box can call or stop in.

Our clothing warehouse will remain closed at this time. We are currently unable to accept any clothing or household donations. We continue to accept food donations.

Our food pantry remains open, but looks different. Clients will drive to the rear of the building and a pre-packed food box will be loaded into their vehicle by one of our friendly staff members or volunteers.

Our food pantry is open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9am – 1pm.
Families that are not clients can register and begin receiving food immediately. Registration is a simple process and can be completed over the phone by calling 719.275.0593.

Every Thursday from 9am – 1pm anyone can pick up a Mystery Food Box. Mystery Boxes consist of produce, dairy, bread, various frozen items and other surprises. You do not need to be a client of Loaves and Fishes Ministries to receive a Mystery Food Box.

Mobile Food Pantry continues on the 2nd Friday of each month from 11am – noon at the Mountain View Church – 200 Justice Center Road, Canon City.

Senior Food Boxes are distributed on the 3rd Friday of each month from 11am – 2pm. Registration is required, please call 719.275.0593 for details.

As always, Loaves and Fishes Ministries appreciates your support as we navigate this difficult time. What a blessing it has been to see our staff, volunteers, and community stepping up during this time to ensure our community’s vulnerable citizens are cared for well.
